Robert D. Voogt was a true pioneer in the brain injury field. Recognizing the need for an organization devoted specifically to addressing the needs of multidisciplinary brain injury professionals, Dr. Voogt was the driving force behind North American Brain Injury Society during its formative years and served as its first Chair. He believed that whether in clinical care, research, policy, or advocacy, the organization he founded should stand behind the premise that advances in science and practices based on application of scientific evidence would ultimately provide the best outcomes for those with brain injuries and their families.
At each NABIS conference, the Voogt Award is presented to an individual who demonstrates dedication to the advancement of the traumatic brain Injury field. The award recognizes important new work in the areas of clinical care, research, public policy, or advocacy. The individual should represent the tenacious spirit and unwavering commitment towards persons with traumatic brain injuries that Dr. Voogt exemplified over his lifetime.
Thanks to contributions by those active in the brain injury field, the award to grows each year in both value and prestige. We hope that all those who knew Dr. Voogt and benefited from his work will consider honoring him with a donation.
